The Work of Alekos Fassianos

Alekos Fassianos (1935–2022) was a Greek artist born in Athens who worked across painting, printmaking, illustration, and set design. His work is known for its bold color, fluid lines, and distinctive, almost dreamlike figures—often featuring recurring motifs like cyclists and smokers.

Fassianos played the violin before studying painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Yannis Moralis. He later received a scholarship from the French government to continue his studies in lithography in Paris, and spent his career between France and Greece.

He exhibited widely in Greece and internationally, with shows in cities including Paris, London, and Tokyo, and participated in major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale. In 2004, a major retrospective of his work, Mythologies of the Everyday, was held at the National Gallery in Athens.
